Post N°5 - Changes to my study programme

I entered the university in 2021, a few months before I thought I would not be able to access, however, I felt very excited when I got the mail that I had been in the university I had always dreamed of. First year was very strange, not only because it was pandemic, but because the courses taken are very disconnected to the career, I thought at that time, but as I progressed I began to realize that the academic mesh is made in a certain way so that there is a continuous learning and that it is becoming more and more specialized. I am currently taking the specialization courses, i.e. educational psychology, clinical psychology, legal psychology, labor psychology and community psychology, which I consider fundamental to be able to contextualize the area that you can choose to specialize in, however, I also feel that they try to put a lot of information in few classes and of short duration. Now, next semester I will have to choose electives, which I hope will be much more specialized. And the load of these, I feel that it depends on each branch, there are some where you have to invest a lot of time, while there are others where having a previous knowledge you can learn more easily.

Regarding the duration of the career, I have always believed that it is fine, since it is 5 years, however, I feel that if only we would add one more year to have practice, because although in college they teach you the theories and therapeutic approaches, you never exercise that knowledge, so when you graduate from the career you are exposed to a totally unknown world, where any mistake can generate a great damage to the patient.

Regarding the faculty, I feel that it is quite complete in terms of infrastructure compared to other universities, however, I feel that it still lacks the casino to have lunch and maybe some chairs to sleep haha.

And the teaching methods implemented by the professors are diverse, since you have to remember that most of them are not professors as such, but rather specialists or academics in the area, so they tend to teach in different ways and suddenly you just have to learn their rhythm and you will be fine.

  1. With the latter, there should be more teachers than just professionals

  2. I agree with the fact that only one internship during the full programme is not a lot. Maybe the University could offer several small internships throughout the years.
